Living Longer & Living Well

Our mission is to help merge living longer with living well, starting with helping older adults stay healthy enough to live independently. Here’s six reminders for you and your loved ones:

Keep Moving

What you do is less important than doing something. Walking, gardening, or volunteering when you’re on your feet — daily activity helps maintain heart health, muscle mass, and less obvious things like balance.

Plant-First Diet

More plants, less meat. You don’t need to be on a diet if you’re mindful of what’s in your diet. Restrictive diets aren’t sustainable, so, if you need a reminder to eat the cookie from time to time, here it is!

Limit Alcohol

You’ve likely seen a headline citing the health benefits of a glass of wine. The trouble is, most people struggle to limit their consumption to an occasional (and single) serving. Err on the side of not consuming alcohol or truly limiting it, if you’re conscious of its implications on your health.

Commit to Family and Friends

This is one of our favorite things to highlight — sharing experiences with loved ones helps make life rich. Everyone benefits. You get to think critically and stretch your memory and the person you spoke with feels cared about.

Sleep

Most people are chronically underslept. Shoot for nine hours of sleep a night and try not to accept less than seven.

Stay Curious

Starting new chapters later in life is a great way to maintain a youthful spirit. The sense of accomplishment that accompanies learning new skills and hobbies helps provide purpose and enjoyment, and proves, after all, you can teach an older dog new tricks.
